Get the Scoop from Top Music Supervisors

in Nashville, Royalties 101 Event in NYC

The dog days of summer are already here, and before you know it, vacation season will be over. But with two big events coming up this August, the AIMP is set to give its members a head up on the competition.

AIMP’s Nashville Chapter begins the festivities with “Inside Scoop from Music Sups V3,” which will be held August 14 at the Basement East in Nashville. The event — sponsored by Big Deal Music, Combustion Music, ole, and Warner/Chappell Production Music — will feature panelists John Bissell of Mothlight Music, Sarah Bromberg of Bonfire Collective, Amanda Levine of Platinum Rye, Janet Lopez of Neophonic, and Rick Clark of Rick Clark Productions. They will provide attendees with an inside look at their upcoming projects and music needs so they can prepare music submissions that meet their requirements. For more info or to register for the event, click here.

AIMP’s New York Chapter will then follow up its July event on music publishing contracts (more below!) with “Music Publishing Royalties 101 / Part 2,” which will be held August 16 at the Downtown Music Publishing offices in New York City. Featuring moderator and AIMP NY Board Member Joyce Dollinger, Esq., and panelists Sean McGraw of Downtown Music Publishing and AIMP NY Treasurer H. Steven White, CPA, of Janover LLC, the event will provide attendees with a valuable overview of royalty splits, royalty percentages, revenue streams, and royalty sources and accounting. The event is already sold out, but stay tuned for more info from the session!

AIMP LA Hosts ‘Fall TV Preview’ Event

The AIMP’s Los Angeles Chapter brought together the music heads of three major production studios for its “Fall TV Preview” event on July 20 at Lawry’s The Prime Rib in Beverly Hills, CA. AIMP LA Board Member Eric Polin of Universal Pictures moderated a panel consisting of Samuel Diaz of CBS Television Studios, Alicen Catron Schneider of NBCUniversal Television, and Tony Scudellari of Sony Pictures Television, who provided a comprehensive look at the upcoming Fall TV season. Each panelist showed clips and sizzle reels from their upcoming shows to give attendees a feel for their subject and tone. They also discussed their music needs and challenges so attendees can better prepare their music submissions.

AIMP NY Tackles Publishing Contracts

AIMP’s New York Chapter kicked off its two-part Music 101 series with “Music Publishing Contracts 101 / Part 1” on July 19 at the offices of Downtown Music Publishing in New York City. Andrew Bergman of Downtown Music Publishing moderated a panel featuring AIMP NY Board Member Joyce Dollinger, Esq., and Bea Koramblyum of Downtown Music Publishing, who discussed music copyrights, highlighted the differences in various types of music publishing contracts, and reviewed the main rights and obligations in a co-publishing agreement.

AIMP in the News

AIMP LA Board Member and music industry lawyer Erin M. Jacobson published her latest piece in Forbes on July 19. Titled “Spotify May Have to Pay Songwriters $345 Million,” the piece delves into the recent lawsuit against Spotify filed by Bab Gaudio of Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons and Bluewater Music Services Corporation, examining their case against the streaming juggernaut and explaining the reasoning behind it. Check it out by clicking here.

Back in June, the AIMP hosted its second annual “Indie Music Publishers Breakfast” at MIDEM 2017. And this July, Music Week featured a photo from the event featuring Pierre Mossiat (President of IMPF), Teri Nelson Carpenter (Vice President of AIMP), Rolf Budde (Vice President of IMPF), and Michael Eames (President of AIMP).
