This Month: European Licensing

and Broadway Bound in NY, Songwriter Series in Nashville, Fall Luncheon in LA

All three regional branches of the AIMP are up and in full swing as we bid adieu to the summer. Hope you all got your beach time in (and didn’t go blind in the eclipse) because it’s time to get back to work!

AIMP NY will kick things off on September 20 with its premier-members-only event “Meet MINT Digital Services: Solutions for US Publishers’ Pan European Licensing Needs,” which will take place at the offices of the Harry Fox Agency (HFA) in New York City. It will focus on MINT, a multi-territorial digital service provider (DSP) that provides a single source license on behalf of publishers, songwriters, and composers. AIMP premier members who would like to register can do so by clicking here. To upgrade your membership, send an email to

AIMP Nashville is up next with its third annual “AIMP Songwriter Series” on September 25 at The Country in Nashville. Each year, an industry committee selects six up-and-coming songwriters signed to independent music publishers and gives them a chance to shine in front of a high-powered crowd. Stay tuned to the official page for host and performer announcements!

AIMP NY will teach aspiring musical theater songwriters how to write and produce for Broadway during the “Broadway Bound” event on September 26 at Interface in New York City. The event will feature insights from Eva Price, Producer of the Tony Award-winning Broadway musical Dear Evan Hansen, and songwriter Max Vernon. AIMP NY Chapter Head Alisa Coleman will moderate. Register now by clicking here.

AIMP LA will round out the month with its “Fall Luncheon Panel” on September 28 at Lawry’s The Prime Rib in Beverly Hills, CA. The program for the event will be announced soon, so keep an eye on the official page for announcements. And don’t forget to register!

Looking ahead, be sure to save the date for our October-December events, including AIMP NY’s 40th anniversary celebration on December 4. David Israelite of the National Music Publishers’ Association (NMPA) will also be on hand to deliver music publishing updates in New York on October 18, Nashville on October 19, and Los Angeles on October 23. AIMP NY will also tackle Catalog Valuation on November 15.

AIMP Nashville Hosts Third Annual ‘Inside Scoop from Music Sups’ Event

AIMP’s Nashville Chapter brought together prominent music supervisors John Bissell of Mothlight Music, Sarah Bromberg of Bonfire Collective, Amanda Levine of Platinum Rye, Janet Lopez of Neophonic, and Rick Clark of Rick Clark Productions for “Inside Scoop from Music Sups V3,” which was held August 14 at the Basement East in Nashville. The panelists provided attendees with valuable pitching tips and fresh insight into their music needs for upcoming projects, landing coverage in Music Row and previews in SonicScoop and Music Supervision Central. Thanks to our sponsors Big Deal Music, Combustion Music, ole, and Warner/Chappell Production Music as well as all our attendees and speakers for making this a great event!

AIMP NY ‘Royalties 101’ Brings Attendees Up to Speed as Fourth Quarter Looms

AIMP’s New York Chapter brought its two-part Music 101 series to a successful close with the sold-out “Music Publishing Royalties 101 / Part 2” event, which was held August 16 at the offices of Downtown Music Publishing in New York City. With the fourth quarter quickly approaching, the event sought to teach attendees the basics of royalty splits, royalty percentages, revenue streams, and royalty sources and accounting so they can ensure they are being paid properly. Panelists included Sean McGraw of Downtown Music Publishing and AIMP NY Treasurer H. Steven White, CPA, of Janover LLC along with moderator and AIMP NY Board Member Joyce Dollinger, Esq.

AIMP in the News

AIMP LA Board Member Sam Kling sat down for an in-depth Q&A with SongwriterUniverse about his main gig as SVP of Creative Operations at SESAC. Check it out to hear all about how he got involved in the music publishing business, his journey to SESAC, and what the company is doing now to help its songwriters.

As if that wasn’t enough, fellow AIMP LA Board Member Jake Wisely recently earned a spot on the National Music Publishers’ Association (NMPA) Board, earning a spot in the Assignments section of Music Connection‘s August print issue. Congrats, Jake!

Pigeons and Planes recently called upon the expertise of AIMP LA Board Member and music industry lawyer Erin M. Jacobson for an article titled “How Can Rappers and Producers Make Sure They Get Paid and Avoid Being Scammed?” The piece features plenty of good advice for aspiring hip-hop artists, producers, and anyone else looking for tips on how to ensure proper payment for their work.

And if that wasn’t enough, AIMP leadership will be making the rounds on the speaker circuit in the coming months. AIMP LA Board Member Michael Todd will be moderating the “Follow the Money – How the Money Flows and Is Tracked” panel on September 22 at the youbloomLA Music Summit & Festival in Pasadena, CA. Meanwhile, AIMP NY Chapter Head Alisa Coleman and Board Member Michael Simon will both speak at the New York Media Festival’s (NYME) Rights Tech Summit, which will be held September 27 in New York City. Coleman will be a panelist on “Remix This: Mash-Ups, Derivative Works and UGC” while Simon will participate in the “View from the Top: The Future of Machine-to-Machine Rights Management” panel.
