Word from a Bird

November marked Jaybird Communications’ 5th anniversary, so I’m feeling particularly thoughtful – and thankful – this holiday season. It’s been a great year working with Audiokite, Border City Media, Dubset, The Mozart Project, Music Business Association, NY Tech Meetup, ole, and Paltalk. It was particularly gratifying to connect again with 7digital for their US pr, and with Digital Entertainment Ventures (DEV) for their work in the Korean market.

In the five years since hanging out the Jaybird shingle, I’ve been proud to represent a wide variety of clients: Agent Ace, Bandsintown, CISAC, Creative Allies, DiscLive Network, Fantrotter, Fred Goodman, Hello Music, Indaba Music, LyricFind, MediaNet, Mobile Backstage, Musicmetric, OpenAura, Rallyverse, Rebeat, ROBA Interactive, Robert Levine, See.me, Shannon Curtis, Showbizy, SuperGlued, TuneSat, and TV4 Entertainment, to name a few, and I’m looking forward to going in to 2015 adding projects for Vlado Meller Mastering and Davis Wright Tremaine.

I’ve been fortunate to collaborate with some ace PR professionals over the years, especially Laura Goldberg, Cathy Nevins, Sheryl Northrup, Karen Wiessen, and Paula Batson. And of course, I’m incredibly grateful for the work of Bill Greenwood and Kyle Wall, who do so much every day as part of Team Jaybird.

Wishing you an excellent holiday season, and all the best for 2015!

This October 7th, the Music Business Association (Music Biz) celebrated the one-year anniversary of their rebrand from NARM and digitalmusic.org. To mark the occasion, Jaybird helped them create a timeline of the year’s major events, both internally and in the industry at large, which was then turned into an amazing birthday cake infographic. Check it out here. It’s surprising to see just how much can happen in a year’s time!

Prior to the 2013 New York City Mayoral Election, NY Tech Meetup (NYTM) conducted video interviews with each candidate in which they were strongly encouraged to hire the city’s first CTO. At NYTM’s September event, eventual winner Mayor Bill De Blasio made good on his promise, announcing the hiring of Minerva Tantoco in the position. We’re excited to see what she can accomplish for the city’s tech community!
ole celebrated their 10th anniversary in the rights manangement business with a blow-out bash at The Fermenting Cellar in Toronto, Canada. During the event, ole‘s initial and primary investor Ron Mock (pictured on right with ole Chairman and CEO Robert Ott), President & CEO of OTPP, took to the stage to recount the story of how partners Ott and the late Tim Laing came to him with the initial idea for ole 10 years ago. The party also featured performances from ole singer-songwriter Haley Reinhart and country star Tim Hicks, who preformed two songs co-written with Roots Three/ole writer Jeff Coplan: “Hell Raisin’ Good Time” and “Stronger Beer.”
This month, Paltalk solidified its position as the leading video chat provider in the world by purchasing Tinychat, a popular chat platform founded in 2009 that offers text, audio, and video capabilities. The deal brings Paltalk to over 225 million registered users, including its Camfrog acquisition in 2010. Jaybird landed a piece on the Tinychat deal in TechCrunch that includes a lengthy conversation between writer Ingrid Lunden and Paltalk COO Eric Sackowitz. It’s a great read, so head on over and check it out!
We were excited to bring music analytics service Audiokite to the October 29th edition of the NY Music Tech Meetup, which was held for the first time at the Livestream Public offices in Brooklyn. Alex Jae Mitchell, co-founder and CEO of Audiokite, took the stage at the event to explain the site’s recent relaunch, which added new features such as customizable song reports and industry opportunities for artists who scored highly on their reports. Following the presentation, Music Think Tank posted a detailed comparison of Audiokite and its competitors SoundOut, Tunecore Track Smarts, ReverbNation Crowd Review, and Music Xray. We’re happy to say that Audiokite earned the victory. Way to go, Alex!

DEV Korea brought its first group of Discovery Fund and accelerator program companies to the November NY Tech Meetup, where they showed off their wares to attendees prior to the show. Participating companies included Contents First, the creators of TappyToon; Richslide; Mushroom; Soundmate; PinStory; and Goonies.

Congratulations to The Mozart Project, which was nominated for two of Digital Book World’s 2015 Digital Book Awards! The innovative online tome about the life, times, and music of legendary composer Mozart will compete in the App: Adult Nonfiction and Ebook Cover Design categories. The winners will be announced on January 14th at the 2015 Digital Book Awards Gala at the New York Hilton Midtown during the Digital Book World Conference + Expo. Wishing them the very best of luck!
Happy Holidays!
