Word from a Bird

With the snow coming down in NYC, it’s really feeling like the holidays. Over the last few months, Jaybird has been hard at work promoting NY Tech Meetup’s latest demo nights and sponsorship announcements, Rallyverse’s newest hire, the Music Business Association’s (formerly NARM and digitalmusic.org) launch of the Music Startup Network, Bandsintown’s partnership with The Agency Group and appearance at the Billboard Touring Conference, Fantrotter’s video documenting their adventures at Chicago’s Wrigley Field during Pearl Jam’s recent concert there, and much more. Here’s a little sampling of what we’ve been up to:
 
 

NY Tech Meetup (NYTM) kicked things off right with its annual student-only demo night on November 4, shining a light on impressive new products created by the entrepreneurs and developers of the future. The December event took things to the next level, with U.S. Senator Charles Schumer addressing the sold-out crowd before opening up the floor to another slate of great demos. Schumer discussed several ways to draw more technology talent to the city, including comprehensive immigration reform that would provide green cards to any student who obtains an advanced degree at a U.S. college and give businesses triple the number of temporary visas for highly skilled foreign workers. He also challenged attendees to improve New York City’s tech infrastructure by working to create a city-wide free public Wi-Fi network.

Jaybird handled press outreach for both events, inviting relevant media to each meetup and distributing a photo gallery from Schumer’s visit within an hour of his speech. These efforts led to strong coverage for both events and their participants in Xconomy, American Entrepreneurship, AlleyWatch (both for Schumer’s visit and the November event), and Business Insider.

Meanwhile, Rallyverse expanded its family by hiring tech veteran Jorge Varona to serve as VP of Engineering. Varona previously worked with e-commerce solution Virtual Piggy as Director of Engineering and has also held key technical positions at Demand Media, YellowPages.com/AT&T Interactive, and MySpace. Welcome to the team, Jorge!The Rallyverse Blog also continues to churn out high-quality content at a speedy clip. The company continues to issue its daily Rallyverse Roundup, which compiles the five best social media and marketing related stories each morning. Various new features and upgrades to the Rallydeck have also been spotlighted on the blog, including the ability to email draft posts to your colleagues within the Editor, improved Owned Content recommendations, and various mobile upgrades. Throw in the latest adventures of the Rallybot – who has recently visited In-N-Out Burger, met some new robot friends, and stolen the office’s whiskey – and you’ve got plenty of reasons to add the Rallyverse Blog to your bookmarks!
Fresh off their rebranding from NARM and digitalmusic.org, the Music Business Association (Music Biz) unveiled the Music Startup Network, the first product to be released under their new name. Following in the footsteps of the Music Startup Academy educational series and the Music API Directory tool, the Music Startup Network allows entrepreneurs seeking licensing, marketing, or mentoring relationships for their apps to connect with those who can help them. Similarly, the network also gives record labels, publishers, PROs, artist managers, and other rights-holders a simple way to sort through, organize, and filter potential partners. The news drew significant interest from a variety of outlets, with Jaybird landing coverage in Hypebot, RadioandMusic.com, and Radio Facts.As if that wasn’t enough, the organization also fielded questions from its members online during the first-ever Common Ground Virtual Town Hall, which has been archived and can be viewed now at http://bcove.me/313gf3aq. During the event, Music Biz President Jim Donio explained the reasoning behind the organization’s name change and restructuring and engaged in a one-on-one interview with Mark Pearson of HITS Magazine before opening up the virtual floor for the audience Q&A. Music Biz also hosted several in-person meetups in New York City, Nashville, and Los Angeles to introduce industry executives to the new name and organization structure. Jaybird helped plan and execute the NYC event at Rockwood Music Hall by booking the club, inviting guests, and going on-site to set up the room, check-in attendees, and more.

Finally, Music Biz held the latest event in their Music Startup Academy series on December 5th in New York City. Focusing on important music-industry concepts such as label and publishing basics, content acquisition and business development, app marketing, and music operations, the event received preview coverage in Music Connection’s email newsletter and SoundCtrl, which offered readers a $25 discount on registration.

Bandsintown CEO Julien Mitelberg made his presence felt at the Billboard Touring Conference this November 13-14, presenting the case study “How Bandsintown Is Leveraging Big Data to Sell Out Tour” on the event’s second day. With more than 8 million users and tour dates for over half of all active touring artists, Bandsintown has access to a great deal of important data that can be used to target fans by artist or genre, affinity behavior, location, and more. In the presentation, Mitelberg explained how promoters can use this data to reach key audiences via mobile, social, and email. It can be viewed now on SlideShare.Bandsintown also announced a new partnership with The Agency Group, a New York City-based talent booking agency that represents nearly 2,000 clients. Jaybird handled press outreach for the announcement, scoring extensive coverage in Billboard, with stories appearing on Billboard.biz and in the print magazine. The story was also featured on Digital Music News and brand-e.biz.
