Officially launched in March 2013, the site is the world’s biggest free entertainment and media directory, with more than 650,000 contacts in TV, film, music, theatre, and entertainment advertising from trusted sources such as The Hollywood Reporter, BluBook, Billboard, AdWeek, the Association of Community Theaters, and more. The site also offers casting call information, job listings, and an entertainment news feed, all personalized to match the interests of each user.

Anyone can access Showbizy contacts, with those who sign up receiving unlimited searching of profiles, casting calls, and productions, plus unlimited messaging to any contact on the site. The site’s customizable platform makes it easy for users to safely and securely create their profiles with headshots, videos, music, and portfolios, allowing them to put their best foot forward to media and entertainment professionals.

Privately owned by Whoslisted LLC, Showbizy was founded by entertainment industry veteran Sam Goldstein, who also serves as President. Prior to launching Showbizy, he served as an in-demand session drummer from 1954 to 1978, working with major artists such as Carol Channing, Lucille Ball, Desi Arnaz, Judi Garland, Frank Sinatra, Buck Owens, Merle Haggard, Eddie Fisher, the Flying Burrito Brothers, and the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band. In 1978, he became a highly successful real estate investor, buying two blocks of buildings across from CBS Studios in Studio City and converting them into short-term rentals for TV and film production. The site drew long-term tenants such as Mary Tyler Moore Productions, Gary Shandling, Larry Kasdan, Roseanne Barr, William Friedkin, and more.

In the late-1990s, Goldstein began to envision a mass directory of entertainment listings to simplify the process of creating connections with those in the industry. In 2011, he purchased the directory content of the Hollywood Creative Directory; Blu Book; AdWeek; Brandweek; Billboard; Billboard’s Auditoriums & Arenas Guide; Billboard’s International Buyer’s Guide; Billboard’s Talent & Touring Promotion; the Hollywood Representation Directory; and the Hollywood Distribution Directory. After adding the directory contents of the American Association of Community Theatres, InstantCast, and The Country Music Start Page, Showbizy was born.

The company is based in Southern California.

Sam Goldstein – Founder and President

Sam Goldstein is an entertainment industry veteran and visionary who is the Founder and President of ShowBizy, the world’s biggest entertainment and media directory that is completely free. He has also been a highly successful real estate investor, TV producer, drummer, and philanthropist.

Goldstein’s deep roots in music, television and philanthropy compelled him to create ShowBizy: “As someone who has called show business my home throughout the bulk of my life, I wanted to make it easy for people to connect across the entire entertainment industry. ShowBizy.com is the complete connection that everyone can use to make their job easier or to further their careers. The entertainment industry has been kind to me, and I wanted to build something that would lead others to the type of connections that would further their goals and careers in the arts.”

The founding of ShowBizy can be traced back to the late-90s, when entertainment connections had to come through personal relationships or as the result of ads in individual outlets like Variety and Billboard, which Goldstein had been placing for years. He envisioned a mass directory of all entertainment-related listings, a “bigger playground that entertainment professionals could draw from.” He even foresaw a day when “everyone was going to have a handheld device and be able to pick up all this information in their hand.”

In the fall of 2010 Goldstein began to pursue a purchase of the directory content of the Hollywood Creative Directory, Blu Book, AdWeek, Brandweek, Billboard, Billboard’s Auditoriums & Arenas Guide, Billboard’s International Buyer’s Guide, Billboard’s Talent & Touring Promotion, Hollywood Representation Directory, and The Hollywood Distribution Directory all owned by Prometheus Media and in the fall of 2011 Goldstein finally completed the purchase.  He added the directory contents of the American Association of Community Theatres, InstantCast and The Country Music Start Page.  Now ShowBizy is set to formally launch in Spring 2014.

Prior to founding ShowBizy, Goldstein’s long and prolific career in showbiz began working with stars like Carol Channing, Lucille Ball, Desi Arnaz, Judy Garland, Frank Sinatra, Buck Owens, Merle Haggard, Eddie Fisher, Flying Burrito Brothers and the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band. As an in-demand session drummer from 1954 to 1978, his gigs ranged from Carol Channing’s one-woman Broadway show, to serving as the house drummer for The Lucille Ball Show, and recording country albums for Capitol Records with Merle Haggard.

In 1978, Goldstein retired from music to invest in multi-residential and commercial real estate.  In 1980, he purchased two blocks of buildings across from CBS Studios in Studio City, converting them into short-term rentals for TV and film production companies. His long-term tenants included Mary Tyler Moore Productions, Gary Shandling, Larry Kasdan, Roseanne Barr, William Friedkin and more.

In recent years, Goldstein has also served as a director or trustee for a wide range of non-profit arts and education organizations in Laguna Beach (his hometown since 1978), including KOCE-TV PBS, The Newport Harbor Art Museum, the Laguna Beach Education Endowment & Capital Committee and many more. In 2011, he was creator and executive producer of a KOCE-TV PBS concert special with the Grammy-winning Billy Childs Jazz Chamber Ensemble and the Calder String Quartet, which won three Telly Awards, and was co-creator of the music TV series Laguna Beach Live, which has become an area staple over its 12+ years on the year.

Goldstein notes that his most important accomplishment in Laguna was aiding in the passage of a Business Improvement District tax, which consisted of a 2% addition to the mandatory hotel bed tax that provides welcome annual subsidizes to Laguna arts organizations, leading to more than $13 million delivered to various local arts groups. He also helped finish the years-long restoration of the historic 1930 Heisler Building, whose tenants includes a Rock ‘N Fish restaurant and Tommy Bahama restaurant and retail store.

He lives in Laguna Beach with his wife Pamela. They have two grown children, Geoffrey and Serena.
